On October 11th over one hundred OFB volunteers, trustees and assorted other supporters gathered at the Kings Centre in Osney for a night of food and frolicking in aid of our charity at the OFB fundraising dinner and Ceilidh.
Almost immediately English Ceilidh band Panjamdrum had dozens of toes tapping as they started putting people through their paces. It soon became apparent that nobody could remember more than two or three of the seeming dozens of moves required for each dance as bodies swayed and swung around the dancefloor in what looked like a drunken brawl – and all of that after just one glass of wine! Over half an hour later the heaving mass happily collapsed in their seats for an extended breather.
Next up a magnificent buffet appeared to help the dancers build up their energy once more before the second session out on the dancefloor. Despite eating way too much the participants showed a remarkable amount of resilience, dancing the night away.
All too soon the music ground to a halt and everyone staggered homewards. Nobody seemed to know what the hell they were doing in any of the dances but a combination of enthusiasm and willingness to look like a complete prat seemed to win the day and as they say “a very enjoyable time was had by all”.
When’s the next one?
