Swimming and cycling for OFB – nearly £3,000 raised!

Nominet Paris bike ride - Julie - website        Sarah swim 2 - website

A big, big thank you to our friends from Nominet and to OFB volunteer Sarah Verny Caird who helped raise nearly £3,000 for Oxford Food Bank between them through sponsored events that they participated in during July.

Julie Gerring and her fellow Nominet workers took part in a sponsored bike ride all the way to Paris and to prove it they are pictured above at the end of their journey with the Eiffel Tower in the background. Overall that involved covering around 300 miles over 3 days, resulting in a group of exhausted and rather sadlle-sore riders at the end of their journey. They still managed to raise a smile for the camera though, and hopefully they all feel very proud of their efforts.

Sarah swim 3 - websiteSarah Verny Caird tried the alternative (and spectacularly successful) option of sponsored swims around the Greek Cyclades Islands while she was on holiday. The photo above shows her with a group of fellow swimmers amidst the glorious scenery, and just to prove it is her the photo on the right is a close up showing her in the wonderful sun-kissed, azure sea. Not a bad place for a swim, but if you consider that she actually swam 5km a day for 5 days I wouldn’t exactly call that a relaxing holiday!

Many thanks to her, and to the Nominet staff for carrying out these fundraising activiies for OFB, and also to other fundraisers currently raising money for us on our Just Giving page. Anyone wishing to set up a sponsored event can use the Just Giving website to simplify collecting donations, or you can simply sponsor one of the events already set up on there. All donations are welcomed by OFB and will be put to good use in helping us to reduce food waste and feeding disadvantaged members of the local community.
